Free Fire Safety Crown Printables

These fire safety crowns are a simple activity to use during Fire Prevention Week or alongside a fire safety lesson at home or in the classroom.

Kids can color their favorite design, cut it out, and turn it into a wearable crown while learning about firefighters, fire prevention, and important safety rules.

I created these as a fun addition to our fire safety worksheets for younger kids, especially preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary students.

Printable Fire Safety Crowns

The free printable includes 8 pages, with six different crown designs for kids to choose from.

There are crowns featuring:

  • Fire Safety Week
  • A fire truck
  • Firefighters putting out a fire
  • A firefighter helmet
  • Stop, Drop and Roll
  • Firefighters

All of the designs are black and white, so kids can color them before putting their crowns together.

The PDF also includes two pages of headband extenders. There are plain strips as well as strips decorated with flames, fire badges, and firefighters, so you can choose whichever works best with the crown your child picks.

How to Make the Firefighter Crowns

Print the pages you want to use on regular printer paper or cardstock if you want the crowns to be a little sturdier.

Have the kids color their crown first, then carefully cut around the outside.

Cut out one of the included extender strips and attach it to each side of the crown. You can use tape, glue, or staples to fit it around each child’s head.

For preschoolers, I would probably cut out the crown and strips beforehand. Kindergarten and elementary-aged kids can do more of the cutting themselves, which also turns it into an easy fine motor activity.

Using the Crowns During Fire Prevention Week

These don’t need to be a standalone craft. I’d use them at the end of a fire safety lesson so kids have something fun to make after learning the important stuff.

You could talk about:

  • What to do when a smoke alarm sounds
  • How to get out of a building safely
  • Why you should never hide during a fire
  • When and how to call 911
  • What firefighters do
  • Stop, drop, and roll
  • Why families should have a fire escape plan

The Stop, Drop and Roll crown works particularly well after practicing the steps together, while the firefighter and fire truck designs are good choices if you’re learning about community helpers. The printable includes both themes.

Best Fire Safety Books for Preschool and Kindergarten

Adding a book is an easy way to introduce fire safety before kids start coloring and making their crowns. These three are especially good for younger kids because they explain important safety rules without making the subject scary.

No Dragons for Tea: Fire Safety for Kids (and Dragons) – This is a fun way to introduce what kids should do if there’s a fire. The story follows a little girl and a dragon through a fire emergency, working important safety rules into the story rather than making it feel like a lesson.

Miss Mingo and the Fire Drill – A great choice if you’re talking about fire drills at school. Miss Mingo’s class learns what to do when the alarm sounds, including how to leave the building safely and why practicing fire drills is important.

Stop, Drop, and Roll! – This one pairs perfectly with the Stop, Drop and Roll crown. It’s a simple, memorable book for younger children that helps reinforce what to do if their clothes ever catch fire.
