Letter C Books for Preschool
When we were working on letter C, I liked adding a few familiar stories into the mix. Theyโre not formal phonics books, but they gave us easy chances to notice the C sound and connect it to words he already loved.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar – This one was an obvious tie-in for โC is for caterpillar.โ Weโd trace the letter C first, then read the story and pause whenever we heard caterpillar. It also worked nicely with simple life cycle activities, especially when we were talking about how things grow and change.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom – The rhythm in this book makes it hard not to read out loud with enthusiasm. My son loved chanting along and pointing out the letter C as it climbed the coconut tree. Itโs playful, fast-paced, and great for reinforcing letter recognition without it feeling like a lesson.
The Cat in the Hat – This one feels a little sillier and slightly more energetic, which is sometimes exactly what you need. We talked about the hard C sound in cat and noticed how often it popped up. The rhyming text keeps preschoolers engaged, even if they donโt catch every word.
If youโre doing a letter-of-the-week approach, simply pausing to point out the C words as you read is often enough. It keeps things light while still reinforcing the sound and shape of the letter.
