How to Use the Random Team Generator
Enter the names of your students, players, or participants, with one name per line. You can also paste in a list of names to save time.
Choose whether you want to split the list by number of teams or people per team. The generator automatically divides everyone as evenly as possible, so you don’t need to work out the group sizes yourself.
Click Generate Teams to create your random groups. Use Reroll for a different combination, Copy Results to copy the teams, or Share Results to send them to someone else.
The default label is “Team,” but you can change it to Group, Squad, House, Table, or anything else that works for your activity.
Random Group Generator for the Classroom
This random group generator is particularly useful when you need to organize students quickly without choosing the groups yourself. Use it for classroom projects, science labs, reading groups, learning stations, games, or other small-group activities.
For example, if you have 24 students and need six groups, select Number of teams and enter 6. If you want groups of four instead, select People per team and enter 4.
You can reroll the names whenever you need a new arrangement, making it easy to change classroom groups throughout the day without manually reorganizing everyone.
The team randomizer also works for sports practices, clubs, camps, family games, and other activities where you need a quick and unbiased way to divide people into teams.

Thanks, Betty! I’m glad the balancing and custom labels help, those were must-haves for class prep on any device. If you try it with family game night, I’d love to hear which team names win. Also, our Random Name Picker Wheel pairs well when you just need turns rather than full teams.
I love this random team generator! As a teacher, it’s a lifesaver for quickly creating fair groups without any bias. The interface is super simple, just add names and click generate. I especially appreciate being able to customize team labels and copy results instantly. It saves so much time and stress during busy class periods. Whether for projects, games, or co-op activities, this tool makes grouping a breeze. Highly recommend it for any educator or parent needing balanced teams!
Appreciate this, Andrew. Copy Results + quick rerolls were designed exactly for those busy class periods and co-op days. If you’re rotating stations, the Random Letter Generator or Random City Generator can add easy prompts between rounds. If anything feels clunky, tell me and I’ll refine it.
