This free Christ the Redeemer worksheet helps kids learn about one of Brazil’s most famous landmarks through coloring and research.
As they complete the activity, they’ll learn where the statue is located, when it was built, who designed it, what materials were used, and why it became one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Where is it located?
It is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on top of Corcovado Mountain, where it overlooks the city and surrounding coastline.
When was it built?
Construction began in 1922 and was completed in 1931. The statue was officially inaugurated on October 12, 1931.
What materials were used?
It was built using reinforced concrete and covered with soapstone, which protects the surface from weathering.
Who built it?
The monument was designed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, while French sculptor Paul Landowski created the sculpture.
Why was it built?
It was built as a symbol of Christianity, peace, and welcome. Today, it is also one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and one of Brazil’s most visited landmarks.
