  2. The statue’s arms are outstretched wide. And if you had a helicopter, you could fit about 80 people standing in each arm!
  3. It weighs as much as about 635 elephants! That’s approximately 635,000 kilograms or 1.4 million pounds.
  4. The statue is made of soapstone, which is a very special kind of rock that feels soapy when touched, hence its name.
  5. The statue is located on a tall mountain called Corcovado. Which means “hunchback” in Portuguese because the mountain looks like a hunched back.
  6. The statue has experienced some lightning strikes over the years due to its height and location.
  7. Christ the Redeemer can be seen from many parts of Rio de Janeiro. And it’s like having a gigantic friend looking over the city and protecting it.
  8. The construction of the statue required a lot of hard work from many workers who carried the materials up the mountain. They had to use trains, cables, and even donkeys to transport everything to the top.
