M Is For Monkey Handprint Printable
The M is for monkey handprint craft was one of those simple alphabet activities that actually stuck with my son, fun, messy, and memorable.
He thought the joke on the page was hilarious, and turning his hand into a monkey gave us the perfect excuse to laugh and learn at the same time.
If you’re teaching the letter M, this is a hands-on way to reinforce letter recognition while creating something your child will proudly show off (or gift to Grandma).

Using the M is for Monkey Handprint
This M is for monkey handprint craft quickly became one of our favorite ways to mix art with letter learning. It’s simple enough for preschoolers to enjoy on their own, but creative enough to keep them engaged.
Here are some fun and practical ways to make the most of it.
- Use it during letter M week. It’s a playful way to reinforce the sound and shape of M while getting little hands involved in the process.
- Let kids customize their monkeys. Add googly eyes, draw a jungle scene, or paint the handprint any color they like, brown isn’t a rule!
- Create a classroom jungle. Collect a handprint from each child and display them together. Ours turned into a jungle mural that everyone was proud of.
- Make keepsake gifts. These handprints are sweet for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or even as a “first alphabet” memory.
- Use it to spark conversation. We used the monkey joke at the top as a starting point to talk about other animals that start with M, like moose and mouse.
How to Make the Letter M Handprint Craft
Print the M is for monkey handprint template on cardstock if you have it. It holds paint better and keeps the monkey from wrinkling when it dries.
We usually go with brown paint for the handprint, but let your child choose their favorite.
Use a brush to paint a thin layer on their palm, then press their hand onto the page under the monkey’s face, fingers pointing down.
Gently lift their hand straight up to avoid smudges, then let it dry completely before coloring the letter M and monkey head. Add googly eyes if you want, or just draw them on, either works.
We always keep wipes nearby (trust me, they’re lifesavers), and my son likes wearing an old T-shirt so he doesn’t worry about messes.
