Printable Mummy Handprint Template
You probably have all of the supplies to make this fun little mummy handprint craft.
There are 3 pages included, the first page is the mummy template and the 2nd and 3rd pages are the Halloween stickers.
If you are printing on colored paper please only print the first page. The second and third pages are the Halloween stickers, and these will definitely look better printed on white cardstock.
Supplies needed to create a mummy handprint picture:
- cardstock (or if you want to print it on colored paper we love this colorful cardstock)
- washable finger paints (these are the paints we use for all of our handprint crafts)
- kids glue
- googly wiggle eyes (Optional)
- Wipes!! It helps to have these handy so you don’t make a complete mess of your table!
How to use the mummy handprint template
Before you begin, set up a crafting area that’s easy to clean. Lay down some newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface.
Arrange all your supplies within easy reach, ensuring that each child has their own set of materials if you’re crafting with multiple kids.
Let your little artists decide on the colors they want to use for their mummy handprints. While red handprints are classic, feel free to explore other spooky shades like green, purple, or even glow-in-the-dark paint for a Halloween twist.
Discuss the concept of mummies with your kids, explaining that mummies are often wrapped in white bandages but can have colorful decorations.
Use a small paintbrush to apply a thin, even layer of washable paint to your child’s hand. This ensures a crisp handprint on the template. If your child has sensitive skin or allergies, make sure to use non-toxic, child-safe paints.
Guide your child to place their painted handprints facing upwards at the end of the mummy’s arms on the template.
Encourage them to press down gently but firmly along their hand to transfer the handprint fully. This step is key to achieving a clear and detailed mummy effect.
Emphasize the importance of lifting their hands carefully to avoid smudging the handprints. Younger children might need a little extra help with this step. Keep those wipes handy for quick clean-ups in case of any accidental smudges.
Patience is essential when waiting for the paint to dry. Allow the mummy handprint template to air dry completely before moving on to the next steps.
Decorating the Mummy Handprint Picture
Once you’ve successfully captured your little one’s handprints on the mummy template, it’s time to unleash your creativity and add those finishing touches to bring your mummy handprint picture to life.
Gather some googly wiggle eyes, which are optional but add a fun and whimsical touch to your mummy’s face. Apply a small amount of kids’ glue to the back of each googly eye and carefully place them on the mummy’s face, giving your mummy some personality and character.
Remember those Halloween stickers you printed out earlier? Now is the perfect time to put them to use. Carefully cut out the Halloween stickers, making sure to stay within the lines.
Let your kids decide whether they want to decorate the mummy handprint picture with these stickers or use them for another Halloween-themed project. These stickers can also be a fantastic addition to trick-or-treat bags, adding a personalized touch to your Halloween goodies.
Allow your mummy handprint picture to dry completely before displaying or framing it. This drying time ensures that your artwork stays intact and the paint sets properly.
Encourage your kids to get creative with their mummy handprint pictures. They can experiment with different paint colors for the hands or even add some glitter for a touch of sparkle. Feel free to adapt this craft to suit your preferences and let your children’s imaginations run wild.
Once the mummy handprint picture is dry and all the embellishments are in place, find a special spot to display your Halloween masterpiece. You can frame it for a more permanent display, or simply use adhesive putty to attach it to the wall or fridge.
This mummy handprint craft is not only a delightful way to celebrate Halloween but also a great opportunity for kids to engage in creative and messy play while developing their fine motor skills. Enjoy the process and cherish the adorable mummy handprint art your children have created!
