How to Use the Morse Code Generator

Enter a word, phrase, or message and it will automatically be converted into Morse code using dots and dashes. To translate Morse code instead, switch to Morse to Text and paste or type the code into the box.

Use Copy to grab the result, or Play to hear the Morse code. You can adjust the speed, pitch, and volume before playing it, or choose Flash to see the signals displayed visually on screen.

If you want to turn your message into an activity, use the Create a Morse Code Puzzle section. Enter your secret message and choose Easy, Medium, or Hard. Easy includes the full Morse code key, Medium provides a partial key, and Hard gives the player only the coded message.

You can then print the puzzle on its own or create an answer key showing the original message.

Ideas for Using Morse Code

Morse code works particularly well when you want to hide a clue or message without making it impossible to solve. A short phrase such as LOOK UNDER THE DESK can become a completely different puzzle simply by converting it into dots and dashes.

For beginners, provide the full Morse code alphabet so they can work through the message one letter at a time. Once they understand how it works, try a partial key or remove the key completely for a much harder challenge.

You could also use the generator for scavenger hunts, treasure hunts, history activities, secret messages between friends, or an introduction to how information can be communicated using signals rather than written letters.

Create a Morse Code Escape Room Puzzle

Morse code is an easy way to add another challenge to your escape room puzzles because the decoded message can become the next clue.

Enter a location, password, number, or instruction such as CHECK THE BOOKSHELF, then choose the difficulty you want players to tackle.

For an easier puzzle, give them the complete Morse code key. For a harder escape room, provide only part of the alphabet or make finding the key a separate puzzle they need to solve first.

You can print the player version and answer key separately, so you have the decoded message without revealing it on their puzzle.
