How to Make Snowman Soup

Putting together snowman soup is quick, fun, and easy enough for kids to help with. We’ve made these for years as simple classroom gifts, Christmas Eve box fillers, and even little surprises from our elf.

Here’s what you’ll need to make each treat bag:

Ingredients for Snowman Soup Gift Bags

  • 1 packet of hot chocolate mix
  • A small handful of mini marshmallows
  • 1 mini candy cane (for stirring)
  • Red and green M&Ms
  • 1 zip-top bag (snack size or sandwich size)

Just layer the ingredients into the bag, cocoa mix first, then marshmallows and M&Ms. Tuck in the candy cane last so it stays whole.

Once it’s filled, you’re ready to staple on the printable topper and turn it into a festive gift.

The printables read “Snowman Soup Love, Twinkietoos” and are designed to fold over treat bags for an easy DIY winter gift.

Printable Snowman Soup Poem

This little poem adds a bit of magic to each treat bag. We’ve tucked it inside the bag or printed it right on the topper, either way, it makes the gift feel extra special.

Here’s the poem we use:

When the weather outside is frightful,
Snowman soup can be delightful!
May it warm your spirit & soul,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
When you feel a chill or “burr”,
Use the candy cane to stir,
Add hot water & sip it slow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

How to Use the Snowman Soup Printable Bag Topper

Once your treat bags are filled, the printable topper adds the final festive touch. We usually prep ours the night before Christmas Eve and tuck them into our family box, but they’re great for class parties or neighbor gifts too.

Supplies needed:

  • Printed snowman soup bag toppers (2 per page)
  • Cardstock
  • Scissors (or paper cutter)
  • Stapler
  • Snack-size or sandwich-size zip-top bags

Instructions

Print the toppers on cardstock and cut them out.

Fold each one in half to create a label-style topper.

Snowman Books for Kids

Once your snowman soup treat bags are ready, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a good book. These snowman-themed stories have been winter favorites in our home and pair perfectly with a warm mug of cocoa.

  1. Snowmen at Night – My son used to giggle every time we read this one. It imagines what snowmen get up to while we sleep, and the playful illustrations make it a repeat read all winter long.
  2. The Snowman – This wordless classic is beautifully told through pictures. We’ve read it (and watched the film) almost every year, such a gentle, magical story that doesn’t need any words.
  3. Sneezy the Snowman – This one’s just fun. Sneezy keeps melting as he tries to warm up, and the kids always love predicting what he’ll try next. It’s silly and sweet with a nice little friendship message.

Whether it’s for a bedtime read or a quiet afternoon activity, these books make a sweet addition to your snowman soup tradition.
