Where was the Temple of Artemis located?
The Temple of Artemis was located in the ancient city of Ephesus, in what is now western Turkey. It was one of the most important religious sites in the ancient Greek world.
When was it built?
Construction began around 550 BCE during the Archaic period of ancient Greece. It took many years to complete and became one of the largest temples ever built.
What materials were used?
The Temple of Artemis was built mainly from marble. Its 127 marble columns, many decorated with intricate carvings, made it one of the most impressive buildings of the ancient world.

Who built it?
The temple was commissioned by King Croesus of Lydia and designed by the architect Chersiphron, who worked alongside his son Metagenes to oversee its construction.
Why was it built?
The Temple of Artemis was built to honor Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, the moon, and fertility. It served as a place of worship where people gathered for religious ceremonies, left offerings, and celebrated festivals. It also became an important cultural and economic center, attracting visitors from across the ancient world.
Fun fact: Although the Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, only a few ruins remain today at the ancient site of Ephesus in modern-day Turkey.
