Handprint Elephant Art

Creating this alphabet handprint craft is simple and always a hit with little ones.

All you need is some cardstock, washable paints, a small brush, and a pair of googly eyes if you want to add extra character.

My son always liked the messy part, covering his hand in paint and pressing it down to see the elephant take shape.

To begin, print out the free letter E handprint template on cardstock (regular paper works too, but cardstock gives a sturdier finish).

Brush a thin layer of gray paint onto your childโ€™s hand, then press it firmly onto the template where the elephantโ€™s body belongs.

Pair your E is for Elephant handprint with a storytime session, these books make the letter and the animal even more memorable.

Elmer – The bright patchwork elephant always made my son smile, and itโ€™s a great way to talk about being yourself. Kids can even decorate their own โ€œElmerโ€ after the handprint craft.

Ella the Elegant Elephant – A sweet story about kindness and courage that preschoolers relate to. It pairs well with the handprint craft for talking about what makes each elephant special.

Elephants Cannot Dance! – This funny Elephant & Piggie book is perfect for early readers, with lots of repetition of โ€œelephant.โ€ After storytime, the handprint craft helps the letter E stick.
