Free South America Worksheets
These free South America worksheets for kids include map labeling, country flags, geography facts, languages, a word search, and a word scramble. The printable pack is a simple way to practice South American countries, map skills, and basic geography at home or in the classroom.
We used these during our South America geography lessons, and the mix of maps, research, and puzzles made them much more engaging than simply memorizing countries from an atlas. Answer sheets are included for the activities too.

South America Map Worksheet
This activity includes two versions of the South America map, one with country names to help kids get started and another blank map for more of a challenge.
There are 12 independent countries in South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The maps also include French Guiana, a French territory, and the Falkland Islands, a British territory.
Kids can color the map and label each country as they go. We found this especially useful for reinforcing where the South American countries are located before moving on to flags and other geography activities.
If you want to extend the activity, the Mapology World Map Puzzle has been one of our favorite geography games to pair with continent studies.

Books About South America for Kids
We used these geography-themed picture books alongside our South America activities to explore the continent’s history, cultures, and landmarks. My son was always more likely to remember a place when there was a story behind it, so they were a useful addition to the worksheets.
- Aztec, Inca, and Maya – A solid introduction to three major ancient civilizations. It helped my son understand the bigger historical context beyond modern borders.
- Where Is Machu Picchu? – We read this before the Machu Picchu worksheet, and it gave him a much better grasp of the Inca Empire and the site’s history.
- Ada’s Violin: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay – This one really stuck with him. It’s an inspiring true story that led to a lot of good conversations about resilience and creativity.
- Waiting for the Biblioburro – A gentle story set in Colombia that introduced the idea of access to education in rural areas. Simple but meaningful.
- Love and Roast Chicken – A funny folktale from the Andes that added something lighter to our study of the region.
