How to Use the Rebus Puzzle Generator

Enter the word, phrase, or sentence you want to turn into a puzzle, then select Generate Rebus.

Each picture represents a word. A minus sign (-) tells you which letters to remove from the picture word, while a plus sign (+) tells you which letters or picture clues to add. Read the clues from left to right to reveal the word or sentence.

Your rebus will appear underneath using a combination of pictures, letters, and word clues. If a picture clue has another option available, click it to try a different version.

You can also select Show Words to see which word each part represents or Show Solution to reveal the complete answer.

When you’re happy with your puzzle, select Print Puzzle to print a clean version without the generator controls. The generator is completely free to use and there’s no account or sign-up required.

A rebus is a puzzle that represents words or phrases using pictures, letters, symbols, and wordplay.

For example, a picture might have letters removed from its name before other letters or another picture are added. The challenge is to work through each clue to discover the hidden word or phrase.

Tips for Solving Rebus Puzzles

Start by naming each picture out loud. Then look carefully at any letters shown before or after it and at instructions that tell you to remove letters.

Work through the clues from left to right and combine the sounds or letter groups you are left with.
