ABCmouse Review | Is It Really Worth It?

When I first heard about ABCmouse from another homeschool parent, I wasn’t sure it would live up to the hype.

There are plenty of online learning programs that promise big results but struggle to keep kids engaged. Still, their experience made me curious enough to try it, and I’m glad I did.

In this ABCmouse review, I’ll share how it fits into a homeschool routine, what works well for early learners, and where it might fall short.

Whether you’re looking for a structured preschool curriculum or just a fun way to build reading and math skills at home, this program is worth a closer look.

The top section shows a colorful animated classroom with children and a teacher, icons for subjects like Reading, Math, and Art, and a side menu with user options. The middle section reads “Why we love ABCmouse and why you will too!” with a cartoon mouse mascot in graduation gear. The bottom part shows a learning activity about parrot fish, including facts like their sharp teeth and color-changing abilities, with a reward system and navigation menu on the right.

What is ABCmouse?

ABCmouse is an early-learning program designed for kids ages 2–8, covering reading, math, science, art, and music through short, interactive lessons. Everything is presented like a game, which helps keep young learners engaged and focused without realizing they’re practicing core skills.

The activities progress in small steps, building early literacy and numeracy in a way that feels structured but still playful. It’s a useful option for homeschoolers and parents who want to supplement early education with something screen-based yet genuinely educational.

Why ABCmouse Should Be Your Kid’s First App

After using ABCmouse for a while, these are the features that stood out most for me as both a parent and educator.

  • Aligned with core standards: Lessons follow the early-years curriculum, so skills build in a logical sequence.
  • Multiple profiles: Each account supports up to three children, handy for families teaching siblings at different levels.
  • Adjustable difficulty: You can move your child up or down a level as needed; the parent dashboard shows what’s covered at each stage.
  • Built-in assessments: Quick checks help you see progress without extra paperwork.
  • Extensive library: Thousands of digital books, including Disney and Pixar titles, keep reading time fresh.
  • Broad subject coverage: More than 870 lessons span reading, math, science, art, and music.
  • Ad-free environment: Completely child-safe, with no pop-ups or third-party ads.
  • Printable activities: When you want an offline break, there are worksheets ready to use.

How to Use ABCmouse for Homeschool?

ABCmouse isn’t designed just for homeschoolers, but it works beautifully as a structured supplement for early learners at home.

When my son was still in public school, I remember thinking how much he would have benefited from this kind of program, short lessons, clear goals, and instant feedback.

We now use Adventure Academy, which is the next step up for ages 8–14, and he genuinely enjoys it. It’s the kind of learning “game” he chooses in his free time, which says a lot about how well these programs keep kids engaged.

Whether you plan to homeschool or not, as you can see below ABCmouse supports the common core curriculum.

This would be perfect to add to your homeschool portfolio if you decide to use it. But more than that your child will get a certificate for every lesson completed which could also be included.

I absolutely love ABCMouse, but you don’t need to take my word for it. They get a huge 4.5* from 971k customer reviews on the App Store!

For the cost of a Starbucks each month I think this is the best online learning platform for kids aged 2-8.

You are not just paying for the amazing content either, you are paying for NO ADS and a completely safe environment for your kids to learn in.

If you have older kids though as I do, they also have Adventure Academy, which we are so grateful we have found.
