Free Christmas Color by Number Printables for Preschoolers

These Christmas color by number printables started as a last-minute solution one snowy afternoon and ended up becoming one of our favorite December traditions.

I was scrambling to finish wrapping presents, and my son needed something quiet, but still fun. I printed a few of these, handed him some markers, and he was hooked.

Now we bring them out every year. They’re simple but satisfying, and secretly packed with number practice and fine motor work.

If you’re juggling holiday prep and looking for something festive that actually holds your child’s attention, these printables might just save your afternoon too.

Color by Number Christmas Printables

These festive color-by-number worksheets are free to print and perfect for adding some calm to the holiday chaos, at home, in the classroom, or wherever you need a quiet moment. Just scroll down to grab the PDF and start coloring.

Inside, you’ll find six cheerful holiday designs. All you need are nine basic colors, though we love using our dual-tipped pens that come in a set of 72 (especially helpful when the elf’s shoes need just the right shade of green!).

Two Christmas-themed “Color by Number” activity pages for kids. The left page is completed and features a cartoon Santa Claus with numbered sections filled in using various colors like red, green, yellow, and gray. The right page is uncolored, showing Santa’s legs sticking out of a chimney, with markers in a rainbow of colors placed below the sheets.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Two Santa pages: One highlights Santa’s jolly face, and the other shows him hilariously stuck in a chimney. These pair nicely with our Santa handprint art if you’re adding more crafts to the day.
  • Reindeer and Christmas pudding: The reindeer is full of personality, and the pudding adds a sweet, silly touch. If you’re into keepsakes, our reindeer handprint template matches the vibe perfectly.
  • Ornament and Elf: The ornament is bold and simple, great for younger kids. The elf is a favorite here, especially when our Elf on the Shelf joins in and “colors” a page overnight.

The left page features an uncolored holly and berry design with a number guide at the top, while the right page shows a completed reindeer face, vibrantly colored with red, brown, green, yellow, blue, and pink. A set of colorful markers lies below the left worksheet.

These print in black and white and are easy for kids to follow. For non-readers, you can color the crayon labels to help them match numbers to colors independently.

Whether you’re sneaking in some number practice or just looking for a quiet holiday activity, these Christmas color by number pages check all the boxes.

Benefits of Color by Number Activities

While these color by number printables are definitely fun, they’re also quietly educational. Kids work on number recognition, color matching, and fine motor control as they complete each design.

It’s a simple way to build focus and coordination, especially for younger learners who are still mastering those early skills.

We’ve also found it helps with independent work, my son loves figuring out the picture as he goes, and I get a few quiet minutes while he’s busy coloring.

Best Christmas Books for Preschoolers

Some of my favorite holiday memories are the quiet ones, reading Christmas books together by the tree, cocoa in hand, and the lights twinkling in the background.

Over the years, we’ve built a small collection of go-to holiday read-alouds for the preschool and kindergarten years, and these three still make regular appearances.

  • How to Catch an Elf – My son couldn’t get enough of this one when he was little. He loved pointing out all the silly traps, and we even tried making one of our own afterward.
  • Tough Cookie – A fun twist on the gingerbread story, with a cookie who’s not quite sure where he fits. It’s playful and funny, but still manages to sneak in a lovely message about friendship and self-acceptance.
  • Cooking with the Grinch – If your kid loves being in the kitchen, this is a fun one to read before baking. Mine loved seeing the Grinch make a mess for once!

We’ve read these so often, they feel like part of the holiday at this point.
