Free Plant Life Cycle Worksheet for Kids

The plant life cycle worksheet was one of the first science printables that actually stuck with my son, probably because he got to cut, color, and build while learning.

We’ve used this set during spring nature studies, and it helped him understand each stage, from seed to sprout to flowering plant. The spinning wheel worksheet was especially fun. He still pulls it out when we talk about how things grow.

Whether you’re working through a full plant unit or just want a hands-on science activity that makes sense to young kids, these worksheets are simple to prep and easy to use at home or in a classroom.

Planning the Life Cycle of a Plant

The first worksheet encourages kids to research and identify the four main stages in a plant’s life cycle.

The top features colorful illustrations of a seed, sprout, flower, and mature plant. A botanical book is partially visible in the top right, and green bead garland adds a decorative, kid-friendly touch to the scene.

We often pair this with the book Life Cycles, which includes not just plants but also animals, Earth systems, and space. It’s a nice way to set the foundation before diving into more hands-on pages.

Plant Anatomy Worksheet

In this parts of a plant worksheet, kids color a simple diagram of a plant and draw arrows to label each part, roots, stem, leaves, and petals.

It’s a good visual introduction to basic plant anatomy and works well for early learners who are just starting to connect vocabulary with structure.

The plant illustration is partially colored, with green leaves and pink flowers, and three dual-tip markers in tan, pink, and green are placed on the bottom right corner of the page.

What Do Plants Need to Grow?

This page covers the five essentials every plant needs: water, light, air, the right temperature, and nutrients.

Not all plants require soil. My son was fascinated to learn that in South Florida, orchids grow high up on palm trees with no soil at all!

It’s a great conversation starter for how different environments affect plant life.

A blank box in the center prompts kids to list five things plants need to grow. A green bead strand and the DK book “Life Cycles” are included in the scene, reinforcing the educational theme.

Sequencing the Life Cycle

Three of the plant worksheets focus on sequencing, where kids cut and paste the life cycle stages in the correct order.

Illustrations also include sun and rain as essential growth factors. A glue stick and blue-handled scissors are placed to the right, suggesting a hands-on classroom or homeschool craft.

Once completed, the finished version can be added to a science folder or displayed as a reminder of what they’ve learned.

It also includes sun and rain as essential elements for growth. Bright yellow arrows guide the flow of the cycle, with a glue stick and scissors nearby indicating it’s a hands-on activity.

Make a Spinning Life Cycle Wheel

This hands-on activity lets kids build a plant life cycle spinner. They cut out two circles, trim one to create a viewing window, and attach them with a brass fastener.

One wheel is fully assembled with a fastener and colorful illustrations including sun, rain, and flower; the other is ready to be cut and built. A box of metal fasteners and a pair of blue scissors are included, highlighting this as a fun, interactive science craft.

As they rotate the top circle, each stage of the life cycle is revealed, perfect for reinforcing sequencing in a more interactive way.
