How to Use the Anagram Generator

Enter a word or a selection of letters into the box and select Generate Anagrams.

The tool will show exact anagrams first. These are words that use every letter from your original word exactly once.

For example, entering listen finds exact anagrams including silent, enlist, inlets, tinsel, and intels.

Underneath, you’ll find words you can make using some of the same letters. These are grouped by length, making it easy to find longer words first.

You can also change the minimum word length and choose how many results you want the generator to display.

What Is an Anagram?

An anagram is created by rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to make something new, without adding or removing any letters.

For example:

listen – silent

inch – chin

save – vase

The exact anagrams section of the generator only includes words that use all of the letters you entered.

The Words you can make section is slightly different. These words can use fewer letters. For example, entering listen can also find words such as lines, inset, nest, site, and ten.

Using Anagrams for Games and Puzzles

Anagrams are useful for word games, classroom activities, brain teasers, and escape room clues.

If you’re creating your own puzzle, enter the answer into the puzzle generator and use one of the resulting anagrams as your clue. You can also use the shorter-word results for challenges where players need to find as many words as possible from a set of letters.

Find Words You Can Make From Letters

The generator can also work as a quick word finder from letters. You don’t need to enter an existing word, just type the letters you have available.

Results are arranged from the longest words to the shortest, and you can set a minimum length of 2, 3, 4, or 5 letters.

This makes it useful when you’re creating word games, looking for vocabulary ideas, or simply seeing how many different words can be made from the same group of letters.
