Free Apple Life Cycle Spinner Worksheet
This apple life cycle spinner worksheet has been one of the easiest ways to introduce plant science at the preschool and kindergarten level. Simple, visual, and fun to play with.
My son loved spinning the top wheel to see each stage appear, and it helped him remember how apples grow without needing a long explanation.
We’ve used both the color and black and white versions, depending on how much time (and energy) we had that day.

Apple Life Cycle for Preschoolers
This apple life cycle spinner worksheet comes in two versions, a color version and a black and white one for kids to color themselves.
To assemble:
- Cut out both circles.
- Trim a quarter section out of the top circle to create a window.
- Stack the two circles and fasten them together in the center with a brass fastener.
Kids can spin the top wheel to follow each stage of the apple’s life cycle. From the tree, to bud, to flower, to apple, and finally to seeds.
It’s a hands-on way for young kids to explore plant science without needing much prep.
Apple Life Cycle Stages on the Spinner
The apple life cycle spinner shows five simple stages:
- Apple Tree – A fully grown tree ready to grow fruit.
- Bud – Small buds form on the branches in early spring.
- Flower – The buds bloom into blossoms.
- Apple – Flowers turn into apples over time.
- Seeds – Each apple holds the seeds for the next cycle.
It’s not meant to be a full scientific breakdown, just a clear, hands-on way to help young kids understand how apples grow.
We used the Life Cycles book alongside this spinner to help my son connect each stage with real-world photos. It’s a simple addition that makes the science stick.
Books about Apples for Kids
If you’re looking to extend the learning beyond the spinner, these apple-themed books have been great additions to our own early science shelves:
How Do Apples Grow? – This book gives a clear, kid-friendly explanation of how apples form, from seed to fruit. It worked well alongside the spinner because it follows the same basic stages with real illustrations.
Apples for Everyone – Bright photos and simple facts introduce kids to different apple types, what they taste like, and how we use them. Great for starting a discussion before a trip to the orchard or grocery store.
Apples, Apples Everywhere! – A fun read-aloud for fall. It focuses less on science and more on apple picking, cider making, and all the ways apples show up in everyday life.
Tree Full of Wonder – This one goes beyond apples and looks at trees more generally, but it includes an apple tree and ties in nicely if you’re doing a nature or plant unit.
More Apple-Themed Activities
Here are a few more apple printables we’ve enjoyed using alongside the spinner:
A is for Apple Handprint Craft – A fun letter recognition activity that turns into a sweet keepsake. Great for tying in alphabet learning with fall themes.
Johnny Appleseed Coloring Pages – Simple illustrations to color while talking about who Johnny Appleseed was and how he helped spread apple trees.
Apple Pattern Worksheet – Great for practicing early math skills like sequencing and visual patterns with apple-themed images.
Apple Science Activity – Explore what keeps apples fresh with an easy at-home experiment using lemon juice and other kitchen staples.
More Free Life Cycle Printables
If your kids enjoyed the apple spinner, here are a few more life cycle activities we’ve used during fall and beyond:
- Pumpkin Life Cycle Coloring Page – A simple way to explore how pumpkins grow, with illustrations kids can color as they follow each stage.
- Pumpkin Life Cycle Worksheet – This one breaks down each step with more structure, great for early independent learners or classroom centers.
- Parts of an Apple Worksheet – A nice follow-up to the spinner, kids label the parts of the apple and talk about how each part plays a role in helping apples grow.
- Plant Life Cycle Worksheet – A broader look at how seeds grow into flowering plants, with clear visuals and simple vocabulary.
- Spider Life Cycle Worksheet – Not a plant, but a favorite here around Halloween. It’s a fun switch-up that still reinforces sequencing and life cycle learning.
