What are scattergories?
Scattergories is a really simple yet fun word game that can be played with both children and adults, therefore makes a great family game.
Each game starts with the same letter and you have to answer the questions (as quickly as possible) that begin with that letter.
The aim is to find an answer that no one else has, so you get bonus points!
Have fun with Scattergories this Winter
If you don’t have the original game, these six printables are all you will need to have lots of fun this season.
Download the free printables below, if the email doesn’t come through within 5 minutes please check your junk folder.
Print out the winter scattergories below, it will print out on 6 full pages. Make sure to check the printer settings.
Paper or Card – the printables work perfectly on printer paper so you can easily write on them. These all fit onto one full sheet of paper, so there is no need for cutting.
If you want them to look professional though printing on cardstock will be better, the one I have linked to is what we use.
Grab some pens to fill out the boards, and more importantly, have FUN.
Included in the download are the six winter scattergory boards with the following letters at the top:
All of the boards have the same categories:
- Winter clothing
- Winter food
- Hot drink
- Something white
- Winter activity
- Winter animal
- Something cold
If you are not familiar with the game Scattergories, the object of the game is to fill out a category list with answers that begin with the same letter. You score bonus points if no one else has the same answer.
The winner of course is the one with the most points.
The official game comes with a 20-sided die with different letters on it. This letter is the first letter of each of your answers on the category list.
If you don’t have the game Scatergories we have included 6 different printable boards for you to play with. Print out one for each family member and have so much fun seeing what answers you come up with.
You also don’t need the 20-sided die as we have included the letters at the top of each of the boards.
Tips for playing scattergories with younger players
If you are playing scattergories with younger children you will need to allow more time, in fact, we don’t have a timer when we play anyway.
Why not work in teams? Pair a younger child with an older sibling, or parent.
If the children can’t think of an answer beginning with the letter, why not let them find a word that has that letter in it instead?
