Free Elf on the Shelf Construction Printables
These free Elf on the Shelf construction printables are a fun way to build excitement before your Elf arrives in December.
The set includes a printable door, construction signs, a crane, safety notices, and other pieces to create a mini construction site at home.
We put ours out in late November, then swap the construction setup for our Christmas Elf door on December 1. It’s an easy arrival idea that looks impressive without taking ages to set up.

How to Set Up an Elf on the Shelf Construction Site
We usually put our construction setup out in late November, a few days before our Elf officially arrives. If you’re planning when to set everything up, our time calculator makes it easy to count down to December 1.
The idea is simple: create a mini construction site where the Elf door will eventually appear. We add twinkling lights, glittery foil, and the printable warning signs to make it look like the elves are still busy getting everything ready.
One tip I’ve learned after doing this for years is to print the pieces on cardstock if you want them to stand up better. Regular paper works fine too, especially if you’re attaching the signs directly to your display.

What’s Included in the Elf Construction Printables
The printable set includes everything you need to turn a simple corner into an Elf construction zone, including an Elf safety notice, warning signs, a printable crane, and a “land for sale” sign from the North Pole Property Management team.
To create ours, I wrap a sturdy piece of cardboard or cardstock in aluminum foil, then cut out the construction pieces and arrange them on top.

We glue the signs directly onto the foil-covered base and prop the crane up with [mini tripods] or LEGO bricks to make it stand tall. The safety poster and little construction signs are my favorite details because they make the whole setup look like a proper miniature work site.
Once everything is assembled, the construction site is ready for the Elf to appear while the new door is supposedly being built.
From Elf Construction Site to Christmas Elf Door
The night before our Elf officially arrives, we pack up the construction zone and put a festive little elf door in its place. It’s a simple switch, but it makes it look like all that construction work is finally finished and the Elf is ready to move in.
We usually make the switch for December 1, so the construction setup works particularly well for those last few days of November.
Then, as Christmas Eve approaches, the door becomes part of our goodbye tradition. We leave out a farewell letter from the Elf, which helps wrap up the fun before he heads back to the North Pole.
