This fun back to school word scramble can be played at any time of the year, in the New Year, after spring break, or in August when they start a new year.

We have created an easier and harder version of this back to school word scramble, perfect for upper elementary and middle school kids.

There are 12 fun school-themed words to unscramble and to help out I have included the answers in the download.

These word scrambles are perfect first day of school worksheets.

Unscramble the Back to School Themed Words

These free word scramble printables are great either for the classroom, or homeschooling. I think you will also enjoy our free first day of homeschool sign that can be used for school students too.

This free printable back-to-school word scramble is free to print but is for personal or classroom use only. Scroll to the bottom of the page to get the pdf file.

This back to school word scramble is a great game for elementary and middle school-aged kids. I have added two versions of the word game.

One has no clues at all, and one has the actual words around the side of the puzzle to make it easier for younger kids.

Print off as many copies as you need and just have fun. Let me know in the comments what your hardest word was.

We also love playing mad libs all year round, but this first day of school mad libs book is another great fun activity to keep them entertained. It’ll also make a great back to school gifts for homeschoolers.

The first sheet is the easiest word scramble.

They all have 12 words to find, but this version below has the answers written in green around the sides. This will make it much easier for younger children.

The second word scramble is much harder.

There are no answers at all, so the children have to try and unscramble the words. The only clue is, all of the words are related to school!
