Fall Scattergories Free Printable Boards
Fall Scattergories ended up saving us during a rainy weekend when everything else felt too loud or too much.
We grabbed some snacks, spread out the printable boards, and suddenly even my usually reluctant-to-write kid was scribbling answers as fast as he could.
The mix of fall-themed prompts and timed chaos turned it into this perfect blend of calm and energy.
It’s now tucked in our fall basket, ready for impromptu game nights or cozy afternoons when we want something fun but not overwhelming.

Free Fall Scattergories Printables
We’ve used these fall Scattergories boards so many times I’ve lost count, on cozy afternoons, during rainy weekends, even at Thanksgiving when the kids needed something to do.
You don’t need the official Scattergories game to make it work. Just print the pages, grab some pens, and decide if you want to set a timer or keep it relaxed.
They’re US letter-sized (8.5 x 11), so it’s easy to print at home or in a classroom.
Each board features one fall-themed word at the top: CORN, FALL, LEAF, or COZY, which determines the letter your answers need to start with.
The categories stay the same across all four boards and include:
- Fall activity
- Football team
- Something orange
- Fall clothes
- Found outside
- Country to visit
- Type of pie
- Fall color
- Found in a field
- Fall sport
How to Play Autumn Scattergories
These printable scattergories lists are easy to use with kids or adults, no extra setup needed.
Here’s how to play:
- Give each player a board and something to write with.
- Set a timer (2–3 minutes works well).
- Using the letter at the top of the board, players fill in the list with words that start with that letter.
- When time’s up, compare answers, duplicate responses don’t count.
- The player with the most unique answers wins.
Playing with Younger Kids
If you’re playing with younger kids, a few simple tweaks can make the game more relaxed and fun:
- Skip the timer. Let them think it through without pressure.
- Play in teams. Pair younger kids with older siblings or adults to help with spelling and brainstorming.
- Loosen the rules. If thinking of words that start with the letter is tough, allow words that contain the letter instead.
We’ve used these boards with kids as young as six, and the flexibility makes it work for mixed ages. It’s a fun way to sneak in vocabulary, spelling, and a little friendly competition, without it feeling like a lesson.
If you’re planning activities around football season or game day, check out our free football scattergories printable. It uses the same format with sports-themed categories kids and adults can both enjoy.
