Free Roald Dahl Coloring Pages for Kids

Roald Dahl coloring pages have been a fun way for us to bring his stories to life, especially around Roald Dahl Day in September.

Whether it’s Matilda with her stack of books or the BFG towering over Sophie, my son always gets excited to color in his favorite characters.

These printables are great for quiet time, story extensions, or just for a bit of creative fun after reading the books, or watching the films (though fair warning, the original BFG movie is not as gentle as I remembered!).

Roald Dahl Coloring Sheets

These Roald Dahl coloring worksheets have been one of our favorite ways to celebrate Roald Dahl Day.

We usually pick a book to read together, then grab a few crayons and bring the characters to life on paper.

It’s a simple, creative way to connect with the stories, and it works whether you’re reading at home or planning Roald Dahl Day activities in the classroom.

The set includes 16 printable coloring pages inspired by some of Roald Dahl’s most popular books:

  • Matilda
  • Twits
  • BFG
  • Charlie & The Chocolate Factory

Matilda

Matilda has always been a favorite in our house, probably because she reminds us a little of my son when he was younger: always reading, always curious.

These coloring pages are perfect after reading a chapter or two. You can also use our free Matilda printable, where kids can match up key characters before adding color, which helps with story recall in a fun, hands-on way.

BFG

The BFG scenes were the first ones my son reached for, he couldn’t stop laughing at how massive and goofy the giant looked.

These pages are easy for younger kids to enjoy, and they open up great conversations about dreams, bravery, and unlikely friendships after reading the book or watching the film.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

These pages are packed with golden tickets, wild inventions, and plenty of chocolate-filled fun. We even did a mini chocolate tasting while coloring (highly recommended).

We also have a character-themed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory printable that works well once kids have picked their favorite part of the factory tour.

Twits

The Twits coloring pages are a mix of messy hair, upside-down rooms, and strange animal tricks, perfect for kids who love a bit of silliness.

My son thought these were the funniest by far. After coloring, he started making up his own prank ideas, which turned into a fun storytelling moment.

Roald Dahl Books for Kids

If your kids enjoy the coloring pages, these activity Roald Dahl books are a fun way to keep the creativity going:

A Marvellous Colouring Book Adventure – This one’s more detailed and great for older kids who want to spend more time on each page. The BFG and Wonka scenes were favorites in our house.

Roald Dahl Mad Libs – A silly way to sneak in some writing practice. My son loved making up ridiculous stories with characters he already knew.

Matilda Sticker Book – Great for younger kids who like retelling the story or making up their own scenes with stickers.

Mischief and Mayhem – Full of pranks, riddles, and activities inspired by Dahl’s more mischievous characters. It’s been a hit during rainy afternoons.
